Title: Out of the Pridelands

Plot: This is an AU version of the first film in which Zira was present from the beginning. The story starts up at the beginning of the scene where Simba goes to see Scar after "The Morning Report". Everything plays out exactly as it did in the film right up until Mufasa's death, where Scar (and Zira) try to make Simba think he's responsible. Instead of falling for the deception, however, he runs back to Pride Rock and tells Sarabi everything. What follows is a confrontation with Scar in which he tries to take Simba and kill him, but Sarabi slashes him across the face. Sarabi and the other lionesses then take Simba and Nala and, following a ghostly visit from Mufasa, enter the jungle. There, the cubs grow and fall in love as adolescents. As adults, they return and retake the throne from Scar, who is killed by Zira and the hyenas after he betrays them. The hyenas flee to their own lands, having rejected Scar, and, by extension, Zira, who then runs off, vowing revenge against the royal family.

Simba was unhappy as he watched his father leave. He gave a deep sigh. "I never get to go anywhere," the cub complained as he followed Zazu back towards Pride Rock. "Oh young master, one day you will be king, then you can chase those slobbering, mangy, stupid poachers from dawn until dusk," Zazu replied. Simba chuckled to himself and then continued on his trek home. Finally, they arrived back at Pride Rock. It was in that moment that he decided to go and visit his uncle Scar and aunt Zira.

Simba headed over to an area of Pride Rock that he knew his uncle and aunt frequently rested at. "Hey Uncle Scar and Aunt Zira, guess what?" the cub said excitedly.

Mufasa had just finished sending the hyena's back to there pig-sty of a home. He started to make his way back to Pride Rock.

Not getting an immediate response from his uncle and aunt, Simba went a bit closer. "I said, 'Hey Uncle Scar and Aunt Zira, guess what?'" the cub stated.

Zira had sensed the cub's prescence long before he spoke. "What?" She muttered, rolling her eyes as she glanced at Scar.

Simba smiled proudly. "I'm going to be king of Pride Rock," he announced.

Not far off, down on the sunning rocks at the base of Pride Rock, Nala lay in her mothers arms as Sarafina cleaned her. The cub sighed, she was bored out of her mind. Simba had been away with Mufasa for some time now, and the lioness didn't know he was back yet, and even if he did show up, she wouldn't be able to come play. She was in the middle of being washed, and hoped that when Simba did show up she would be clean enough to go somewhere with him, continued to squirm ever now and then as Sarafina's rough tounge swept over her, bathing her gentley.

Simba was completely unconcerned with Scar and Zira's less-than-enthusiastic response. He looked out at the Serengeti from the ledge. "My dad just showed me the whole kingdom, and I'm gonna rule it all," he said cheerfully. He looked at Scar, then at Zira and then back at Scar, waiting for a response from either.

Mufasa could see Pride Rock now, he'd walked a far way. He glanced towards the sky. The sun was high up, meaning it was midday. Mufasa was in no hurry, he slowly walked through his Kingdom, taking in all the beauty of his lands.

Sarabi watched Nala being washed by her mother. She was so fond of the young cub. She thought of her young son and her brilliant mate, and felt a peaceful calm in the air.
