I've always thought that okapis were kind of unusual, but that's just me.

This reptile may not look unusual, but it is the only surviving member of the ancient order Sphenodontia, and lives only in New Zealand. It also (and I think this is mid-blowingly cool) has a third "eye" on the top of its head which is used to detect light (couldn't find any good pictures of it, though).

The world's only aquatic marsupial. The females can close their pouch while they are underwater (which is a very good thing if they have any babies in there).
