People like what they like. I don't see the appeal of anime either but I'd never judge others for liking it. Whatever floats your boat.

Y'know when most people say the like anime, they mean they watched like one episode of Naruto or Dragonball in their entire life.
But for people like me who genuine just like some of it, it's because there is so much of it that you can pretty much be sure to find a story that interests you, for me that was Ghost In The Shell.

I was never really in to anime, but when I first met Shadowfax and Tsuki they were both in to it in a major way, so I gave it ago. Fave series is Death Note and I also like Wolf's Rain. We all followed Naruto before it jumped the shark.

What makes it different? Character design (very specific), character complexity (one person usually creates ONE anime character, which makes each character have quite unique personality), the anime also show JAPANESE TRADITION etc.

The anime are also drawn totally different way, compered to non-Japanese cartoons. If you ask me, the difference is very visible, but OK.

I myself can't say I totally OBSESS over anime, but I do love some, and I do just adore their style of drawing. It's an art of its own.

But, anime should be watched in Japanese, in order to get complete picture, definitely. Any dubbing kind of ruins its uniqueness.

I actually really enjoy watching Anime, now I'm not saying I'm OBSESSED with it but I love to watch it every now and then. My friend Caitlin on the other hand, is obsessed but that's what she likes and I just accept it because there's nothing wrong with it. I am collecting the Clannad collection because it's my favourite Anime and then I'll collect Kanon, Air and Angel Beats.

Everyone likes different things and we just need to accept that. That's what makes us different and unique imo. I'm sure there's things you like that other don't and that's fine. You don't need to understand why some people are 'obsessed' with Anime. You just need to accept it. ^^

My best friend is what you would call obsessive. She is still my best friend, and whatever she likes is what she likes. I personally don't particuarlly care for it as much as I used to, but I will still watch some now and then when I get the urge. My favorites are Baka Test, Wolf's Rain, and Fruits Basket. There is so much of it, you might find yourself to like a series if you really dug deep as Flip said.

It's just one of those things people like and there's really nothing wrong with that. :P

Sometimes you don't even have to try to find an animé series you'll find interesting - Just mingle around with those with the same interests as you.

I'm a competitive World of Tanks player and I hang out on the World of Tanks forums occasionally. There's this animé series called Girls Und Panzer (translated: 'Girls And Tanks'). Some of the other World of Tanks players were talking about it, and that's when I took some interest in this series and watched it. I can safely say that it's the first and only animé series I was ever interested in (other than Pokémon from way, way back).

Animé, as many of the other posters here have mentioned, is just another one of those things people take interest in, in very much the same way we take interest in the Lion King trilogy, its merchandise and its fandom.
