Internet safety, that is. Figured this could be a good thread for people to discuss viruses, spyware, pedos, and software/precautions to (try to) prevent them all. :)

Pedos: because they need to be discussed on a Lion King board that doesn't allow discussions of that sort. :nehneh:

Anyhow, I'm not sure how many people know this, but on Facebook never let some widget allow itself on your profile. I know most of you wouldn't do this; just warning you. Especially a widget that says that a girl commited suicide because her father posted something terrible on her wall.

If you guys have been wondering what this is, it's just for people to get onto your profile and spam and say mean things. Just don't do it, lol. (Believe me, I looked it up)

Since when would we not be allowed to discuss pedos here? o.O lol

But as long as we're on the topic of Facebook, I would like to warn you all never to accept friend requests from those profiles (not the pages, but profiles that use the name and image of cartoon characters rather than a real person (not that you should accept people you don't know, either). Those profiles are very often made by pedos (yes, I uttered the word again) to fool kids into friending them and thereby releasing everything in their Facebook to them. After all, what better way for a pedo to gain access to a kid's Facebook by using the identity of their favorite cartoon character?
NOTE: this has nothing to do with the change-your-profile-picture-to-a-cartoon-character meme that a lot of people participated in.

LOL, good... I was about to say... I participated in that cartoon character thing, and I'm certainly not a pedo. xD

D: What? I would never post a picuture of myself on facebook, pictures of you can go anywhere, once it's on the internet it never comes of it, believe me. That's why if anything I would be a cartoon character or a OC, because I roleplay on bebo (LOL) So it's the way i flow, and it's safer than posting a picture of yourself or family x3 Most of the time i recolor and make my own characters though, characters are so boring if you can mould them into whatever you want lol x3

Always wear a... Oh you mean on line

What even is spyware? I had it a couple of months ago and my computer did not shut up about it until I downloaded a thing to remove it all.
Also you know what I hate about FaceBook, is how people can find you JUST by knowing where you work even. I had some Arabic people add me the other day just because they work in Cancer Research UK :/ and found me through that. I do not even work there any more.

Spyware is viruses meant to grab information from your computer and send it back to people who shouldn't have it.
