To 'steal through' means to move stealthily and quietly through, so it's like sneaking past the uncertainties, the things they are unsure of. It basically means that they are seizing the moment and not worrying about anything else except each other.

Morning Report

Chimps are going ape, giraffes remain above it all
Elephants remember, though just what I can't recall
Crocodiles are snapping up fresh offers from the banks
Showed interest in my nest egg but I quickly said, "No thanks!"
We haven't paid the hornbills and the vultures have a hunch
Not everyone invited will be coming back for lunch

This is the morning report
Gives you the long and the short
Every grunt, roar, and snort
Not a tale I distort

Read the next line. Beetles are lower on the hierarchical ladder than all of the aforementioned creatures.

When writing the morning report, Tim Rice, who basically wrote it all, was given permission to go all the way with as many bad animal puns as he can think of. That's where all of these lines came from.
