Simba did supposedly have a sister that was cut in the storyboarding process. I believe her name was "Shani".

Umm...Shani was a working name for Kiara. I never heard of Simba having a deleted sister, if that occurred; this information is new to me.

However, in the King of the Beasts script, Nala was implied to Simba's half-sister because Naanda (Sarabi's sister) was originally Nala's mother. I remember somewhere reading in that script that Mufasa was implied to be Naanda's mate so Nala was in fact, at one time during production, Simba's cousin and half-sister.

Thelionprince- You read correctly. Disney changed it to Mufasa and Sarabi being married, only having one cub Simba.
It's true that Sarabi was mean't to have sister who was going to be the mother of Nala. But that as you stated was during the production of the king of the beasts, before it became the lion king.

Shani was going to be the name of Simba's cub. But they changed it because shani means devil I think... basically a evil meaning behind it. So kiara they named her :)

Well if Simba had a brother or sister that would have changed the storyline completely. Scar would have had to scare away- kill the pair of them. I'm glad he didn't have a sister or brother though :)

I knew I wasn't reading wrong. Thank you, Immortal Lioness!

I think you're slightly mistaken. Shani means "curiosity, novelty, something unusual" in Swahili according to this Swahili to English online dictionary. The name, Shetani, means "devil" in Swahili so they changed to Vitani so it's a portamanteau of "demon of war" or "ducks" as one source I remember said.

And, if Simba had a sister/brother, it would be another obstacle (and more work) for Scar and the hyenas to get rid of in order to usurp the throne. Also, Scar and the hyenas would have to craft a really good plan in order to make Mufasa, Simba, and the sister/brother's death look like an accident so no one will raise eyebrows as to how three members of the royal family just suddenly died. Finally, it would inflict more emotional pain on Sarabi when she thinks her whole family is dead.

It'll be an interesting fanfiction since it can't be a fact to say Simba's sister/brother survives, dies, or get separated from as a result of Scar's death traps he set up from them. Who knows? You can kill off Simba, and let the sister/brother live. Maybe, Simba's sister/brother will be an even more closer friend to Nala, and the sister and Nala could chat about girl stuff. The rest of the story is left to you. There's just so many possibilities.

If Simba had a brother or sister I think there would be a sibling rivalry just like the situation between Mufasa and Scar. One sibling would get jealous because one would be the next heir to the throne of becoming the next Lion King or Queen. ;) I'm pretty sure the sibling won't be as bad to the point where one would murder the his or her sibling because of the jealousy level is huge for the throne. But still overall I think it would be interesting and an interesting turn of the events if Simba had a brother or sister in The Lion King movie. :D :) ;)

I don't where this idea got started, but it seems to keep popping up a lot (though as others have already mentioned, it is incorrect). The only thing I can think of is that the Shanni from the fan fiction Chronicles of the Pride Lands (Simba's sister, who died in infancy) got confused with the Shani from the early drafts of SP (an early version of Kiara).

The story could go SO many ways if Simba had a sibling (actually adding any new character could make the story go several ways). Well, Scar could kill Simba, Mufasa and the brother or sister, I mean... it was his plan after all... However, with more characters there's always the chance that one survives, or maybe all of them do...

Perhaps if Simba had a brother/sister, he wouldn't have been involved in the stampede. Who knows?

It really all depends on how the story would go. He could've had a sibling who didn't do anything except sit in the background, and have the story play out the same way. Or if Simba's sibling was more involved, it could have shifted everything. Would Simba even have met Timon and Pumbaa?

My point is, there are way too many outcomes when it comes to the topic you're asking about. We can speculate all we want, but no one can ever know ;)

But as mentioned before, it could make a very good fanfic.

Ah, I did misspell the name. My understanding was not from a fanfiction, but supposedly Shanni (double "n") was cut from TLK in the very early stages of storyboarding. I thought they recycled the name for the storyboarding of SP, and removed one "n". Which, consequently, also changed the meaning:

Shanni: Marvelous/Rare [Simba’s Scrapped Sister]
Shani: Curiosity/Novelty/Something Unusual OR: Adventure/Accident [Kiara Alternate]

I thought it was an interesting thought, at least.
