This relates to just after Mufasa dies and Simba finds out he's dead. It was easier to run from all of the pain and sorrow rather than having to face all of it without any help. (Granted, Simba didn't have much of a choice in whether he should run or stay, but I think he would've run even if he could've stayed.)

Wounds so deep they never show they never go away
Like moving pictures in my head for years and years they've played

This verse could link to how Simba was decieved by Scar into thinking that he was the one who caused his father to get killed and it wasn't Scar. Also, the fact that Simba kept denying the truth of that day could be referenced tot this paragraph hence the line The secret I've kept locked away no one can ever see
The third line could infer the emotional scars and wounds left on Simba after his father's death. The last line can refer to how adult Simba kept having dreams about the day Mufasa got killed.

These next lines tell us how Simba wished he could've done more to save Mufasa and that he regrets not doing anything while he was in the jungle with Timon and Pumbaa. If he could relive his past then he would change a lot of the things he did, or rather, didn't do (going back to the Pridelands to fight Scar and become rightful king)

I think this verse tells us that even after adult Simba has learnt that he wasn't the one to blame for Mufasa's death, he still gets very bad memories about them and wishes he could've somehow prevented his father's death so he didn't have to deal with the memories. In my opinion, the last two lines tell us how Simba doesn't want to move forward in life in fear of making the same mistakes as before. He wants to simply forget his father's death.

This verse states, in my opinion, that Simba is simply pushing all of his helplessness and sorrow away in an attempt to try and recover from the emotional scarring of Mufasa's death, but in the end, he can't get rid of the memories.
