Why does Timon get hurt so much in the movie?

What was with Timon getting hurt so much? There were like, five times he was physically injured, in stark contrast to the other movies, in which he and Pumbaa usually got through it all scratch-free. Was he jinxed or something?

Probably just for comedic effect - watching cartoon violence brings out the sadist in all of us

Timon seemed to me like the type of character who is 'too proud' or 'full of himself' and can seem a bit irritating to other characters, he can act selfish at times and in the process gets hurt.

I loved it when Shenzi knocked him down. That was pure awesome. Go Shen-Z!
