Not only the character herself - I love the voice actress. Julie Kavner is great.

Lol. I don't watch The Simpsons but Julie seems to fit Ma perfectly

From what I remember reading on production notes about the film, Julie Kavner was the one who picked the final design for Ma that we see on the movie. Though it would've also been interesting to see the other designs of her that the filmmakers came up with because we don't see anything else on this in the making of the film DVD featurette.

Oh that’s interesting I didn’t know that. Due to the fact that now I’m so used to seeing the Ma we ended up with on film, I couldn’t imagine another design. To me the voice seems to fit the look perfectly.

Wow that definitely is interesting. Ma looks wonderful on film. The fact that Julie picked the final design herself made her even more special as a character. I forgot what I saw in the behind-the-scenes features, but I wonder if there were early interviews with Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella about the movie and the addition of Ma. That would've been great to see. Julie definitely is fitting as Ma.
