I'd like to know why Scar is apparently so loved among the fandom. People apparently sympathize with him and feel sorry for him!!

I could see the hyenas maybe getting this treatment, but from what I can tell most people on this board seem to hate them.

Uh, because he is a very well made villain?

And most people here don't hate the hyneas either. We all love all of the characters quite a lot. In fact, the only character that gets regularly bashed for being useless and annoying is...
...Zazu.

Sometimes, it really does help to read the older topics before posting such a... wrong statement. There's a reason why we have the MLK Archive. Topics were placed there to jump start more on topic discussion (of which the effect is debatable, but that's not the point). But to assume something so wrong about the community? See video linked.

At the very least, if you really do think that people here absolutely hate the hyenas, show me the proof! If you are going to talk the talk, Be Prepared to walk the walk.

I personally think Scar is a great villian and a very interesting character. In a way yes I do feel sorry for him as he is always in his brother's shadow and I know how that feels somewhat.

As for the Hyenas, I don't hate them at all and I haven't come across anyone who does. It may just be that they aren't someone's favourite but that doesn't mean they are hated

Alot of movies and shows (besides Game of Thrones) have ..well.. lovable villians, one need only look at Loki and people adore him. It comes down to design and how the character is portrayed. Scar has a very 'sharp' design with rough edges, which breaks the happy colourful world he is in. In terms of character, yeah he turns into a whiney whimp later but all the way through he has Sass, and as harsh as his scheme was..it was brilliant. Also you can not deny 'Be prepared' is one of the most amazing villian songs that just sticks in your head. Plus take into account how relatable he is. How many people have older siblings and feel...well.. .cast in their shadow not getting any attention themselves?

I can vouch for this. I used to feel this way a lot.

And this whole notion that "everyone on here hates the hyenas" isn't really true - I think a lot of people just got annoyed that they were being brought up so often where sometimes they weren't even relevant

Everyone has different opinions. I personally don't care for them that much, but I don't exactly love Scar though. I think he's Disney's best villain purely for the fact that he sets out to do something and actually gets most of it done, but besides that, he's awful! - murdering his own brother and then causing severe psychological damage to a young child AND showing no remorse for it whatsoever. I don't think anything that could have happened to him in his life can justify anything that he did.

He's a well developed baddie. A great sarcastic personality. Even though we - or I, at least - don't root for him in the film, I certainly don't dislike him overall.

I can see how people go a step further and will feel sorry for him, as it seems that somewhere along the line growing up he felt like an outsider which turned to the worst of revenges. It's about giving the characters a little more consideration after watching the film, really.

Once again, I'm pretty sure most people don't hate the hyenas. Hate is so strong a word, anyway. I'm sure no one has shown such a distaste for these characters.

It is because of the vaguely Socialist nature of his policies. People are naturally drawn to it.

But Scar never turns into a whiny whimp, though. If you're talking about at the very end, right before the fight, where he whines to Simba, well, I thought he had the "throwing the coals at Simba" bit up his paw the whole time.

He's cool and evil. Some people prefer bad guys

Yet some people seemed to be against me being defensive of the hyenas.

And again, I don't like this "Scar turned into a whimp after he killed Mufasa" thing. That was just the Nostalgia Critic's opinion, and I think everyone is just agreeing with it...
