Jenkins has pretty much stayed the film won’t use any previous source material from older films so probably neither.
Odd so how it will relate to the lion king world?
:kopa2: XD I also have no idea.
I agree its probably for the best, let these remakes work by themselves, the canon of this franchise should be simple enough, but Disney seems to mess everything somehow... (makes for good fanfics though...)

I like the idea of adding new characters to the mythos and "if" this upcoming movie does firmly disconnect itself from The original mythos. Then "maybe" Disney won't slam the door on ever revisiting The Original Continuity again? (Slim hope is better than no hope).

nothing has really been confirmed yet beyond the casting of young mufasa and taka, until we get casting for more characters all we can do is speculate

but i do think its odd that assuming he does replace kiara with a new cub that he would do it in the first place. is there any logical point to such a thing? i guess you could say that it goes with the story he is trying to tell but by now kiara has been long established as simbas firstborn and daughter.

@Elton John: I know there is no reason to replace Kiara, I'm just speculating on what would come of possibly taking that route. I also have nothing against Kiara. I love Her as a character.

In fact the only reason I could think to actually replace Kiara is to make a statement to everyone that They are not going down a rode that will lead to a remake of Simba's Pride.

But it can lead to a remake of Simba's Pride, is just that they are telling the story between the two movies... Simba and Nala have a cub before Kiara, and it somehows leads to the re-telling of Ahadi's and Uru's story (wait that is semi-canon.... )

Wait a second, they are referring to him as taka, isn't that semi-canon out of itself? Do they have the rights to that name? What else do they have rights for? ;)

Only now, have I read SimbasGuard post, guess I arrived late to the party...

That is what I was wondering also. It was Variety that called Him Taka. Is that a solid source. If so if makes Me wonder if Disney can bring whatever They want into canon form semi-canon material like The can with The Star Wars books. If They can We "could" potentially see Kopa,or Asante (assuming they want to avoid using characters from the original continuity).

D23 is this weekend and the chances are very slim but we might get new info on the movie.

I think this D23 is mostly for the Disney Parks, the one for the movies and stuff is later next year.
