Very informative. And that's true about TLK 2019. TLK still remains a timeless brand. I just finished two final papers - one for TLK and one for Disney Plus. Always great to discuss TLK's success be it the 94' or 2019 version.

If a TLK sequel is announced, and it is confirmed to be a 1:1 with Simba's pride, do you guys think there's even a 1% chance for a theatrical release of Simba's pride, for it to get more attention before a remake? Or is it too late for that, or just not good enough for Disney to bother to release it? Just in the 2000's alone there have been two re-releases of the lion king. 2002 and 2011, (2011 being the 3D release I think because this was the one I was able to see in theater). I know Aladdin obviously won't get a release of Return of Jafar, simply because the sequel will not be that movie. I don't know, it's just something that randomly came to my mind thinking about it.

i doubt it.

i also wonder how the heck they are going to adress zira/kovu/vitani/nuka and the other outland lionesses in a remake sequel.

I think that they should be from a seperate pride, Zira is the Queen, Zira wants to take over the pridelands, it mostly plays out like tlk2 but with Sarabi and Sarafina having actual roles and the outlanders not being followers of Scar. Kovu and Kiara meet as cubs, get along well, then most of what happens in tlk2 happens.

I also think Vitani needs an extended role.

Watching the Jon Favreau directors commentary of tlk 2019 it seems he kept a lot of the story beats the same cuz he didnt want to change too much and the more dramatically changed parts were the less iconic scenes.

But even if there is a tlk 2 remake, jon favreau might not be the director, and the new director might have a new vision for it... but who knows.

i can see a new director taking the place if disney decides to go for it and jon doesnt want to. As for the vision of course i think they will try again with the realism, wouldnt make sense to make a sequel with a completely different look to its characters, not in a major way at least. vision plot wise i think if there is a new director we wont get a simba's pride remake.

considering how like you said jon really wanted to keep the same beat of the original, i feel as if he'd try to do the same with the sequel as well even though theres a lot that would need to be fixed.

but if there was a new director i can see a different story to it. different people, different ways they want to do it.

the way i see it i guess is
jon favreau = simba's pride
new director = not simba's pride.

in fact, i honestly really have a feeling it wont be jon if it happens.
idk tbh

Oh wow. A theatrical rerelease of "Simba's Pride" would be really epic. The animation has theatrical quality in my book despite being done by the Australian Disney studio. It won't happen but I'm all for it.

I agree that Vitani needs an extended role.

Maybe the new director likes "Simba's Pride" enough to want to adapt it. Hopefully. I saw someone drew a CGI version of Zira on Twitter. Will look for it and share it soon.

yeah the moment I made my post I kinda realized it was a no brainer that it wasn’t gonna happen. though I’d really love to see it. I’m sure if they do 1:1 Simba’s pride they’ll atleast have some sort of promotion pointing the original sequel.

gosh it feels really weird that for some movies you can say original sequel lol.

It needs to be its own thing, plot-wise. The overall thrust against Favreau's The Lion King was specifically how much it specifically tried to ape the original story beat for beat; the only real difference was the dialogue shifts and how certain scenes/shots were interpreted. And sure, Simba's Pride isn't as popular a movie as the original and so a "live action" sequel don't have as much pressure on it, but I think that can be an impetus for whoever gets the helm to be less beholden to the cartoon iteration. Plus I personally really do want to see something new if this keeps going.

As cool as I think it’d be to see a live-action Simba’s pride - I think it’d be even more cool to see a fresh story come out of TLK franchise.

I agree about the beat to beat adaptation :) with the exception of the added scenes and the comedy parts since comedy lines are usually reworked and improvised by the new actors.

Yes a fresh story would add something new to the universe. Lol yes come to think of it, calling certain movies' sequels as the "original sequel" is definitely funny.

lion king 2019 didn’t win visual effects in the oscars but I didn’t really expect it to anyways. Didn’t expect Lion King to win much awards in general. Hans Zimmer almost won for original score again though in one of the smaller award programs though lol

but I looked backed to the 1995 oscars and I love the way Sylvester Stallone pronounces Hakuna Matata it’s great haha https://youtu.be/F-EsrOB1yNg (too bad gotta copy it.)

but I’m glad Elton John won another Oscar for Rocketman. I believe only his 2nd Oscar besides Can you feel the love tonight in ‘95?
