Off to join the avengers to stop thanos from killing everybody with the infinity gems.

Afterwards he became a fully fledged avenger, and made a deal with mephisto to convince the pride he and his guard never existed.

..... But seriously, I dunno? I mean what if it turns out that all cub kiara scenes are flashbacks?

I think Kion overslept while Kiara went off into the Outlands. After Nala told Simba "She'll be fine." she went into the den to wake Kion up for another training session with the Lion Guard. While Kiara went into the Outlands and met Kovu, Kion hung out with the Lion Guard and when he arrived home, both he and Kiara were lectured on the dangers of the Outlands shortly after Simba and Kiara's "We are one" song. In the future before Kiara's first hunt, Kion and the Lion Guard agreed to patrol for a nearby pride for a short time. After a tearful departure, the Lion Guard protected this neighbor pride until Kiara and Kovu were married, eventually reuniting with the Pride Landers for a happy ending.
That's all folks!

Flashbacks, and Lion Guard Paralleling Lion King 2 are very good possibilities.

If he was a cub that would make more sense. I was sure he was a cub/teen during SP and I was perfectly okay with him not being there but now since it's confirmed he's in Kiara's age it makes no sense to me. I hope they will explain in in TLG.

He was in that strange and mysterious realm known as the pre-retcon timeline.

If Kiara will still be a cub in TLG (I am not going to consider a few images of her as solid evidence that she will be a cub in the show), then we can kiss TLK continuity goodbye even more than after TLK 2 came out, or 1 1/2 for that matter. With TLK 2, you can in the end argue that "Fluffy" from the first movie is in fact Kiara, even if the two look nothing alike. With TLK 1 1/2, you can argue that as a parody, it's not supposed to be completely faithful to the story. After all, Timon and Pumbaa are watching the movie in a movie theater. Where did the find it? The Pride Lands? I didn't see one in any of the wide shots of the area...

But for Kion to be in the events of TLK 2 (when Kiara is a cub and later), not having him be in TLK 2 would be a significant plot point that is never mentioned. Not only would it be a fall-back plan for who gets the throne should Simba be defeated, but he was never mentioned as being on the hit list either.

So there is only 2 possibilities:

Either TLG does in fact take place after TLK 2...

Or TLG was created after TLK 2, and the team behind SP were not aware of any future plans of the TV show. But who am I kidding? :P

Good Point, until we see a scene from the show of Cub Kiara and Kion together there is still the chance that Kiara appearing as a cub could just be a flashback. Tifu could easily be from another Pride so that would explain why she wasn't in Lion King 2.

That teaser from not long ago pretty much cements it, though. It shows her as a cub next to Simba watching as Kion returns home with his group. Also, there's that screenshot of Kiara and Tiifu together, and I doubt those images of the latter are from a flashback and that she's actually older too. That would just make for an awkward reveal of a brand new character.

Another questionable hole they'll need to try and fill is Kion's mysterious absence at the presentation ceremony. Even if he's not going to be the one who will rule all the animals that have come to witness their future leader, one would still expect the baby prince to be shown alongside his sister at the time. Whenever I think back to that scene, I just envision this hilariously depressing image of baby Kion being left alone in the den now.

The lazy and easy route is to just say he's born a little later, but that sort of clashes with the whole lion aging process thing, and it really looks like they're more or less the same age and size anyway, so them being littermates(with Kiara being the first one out and Kion being the second) is the most logical conclusion. I think the events of TLKII are probably just retconned and Kiara's character is a holdover.

That Could be, but if Disney were to go that route, it would hamper any future re-release of Lion King 2. I honestly think that if Disney wanted to completely disavow Lion King 2. Using Kiara would be a mistake. Seeing as she was the star of Lion King 2.

Perhaps (and I know I am NOT the first one to suggest this premise). The Lion Guard will be more of a Lion King 1 1/2 done right (not for comedy) and somewhat parallel Lion King 2 rather than flat out deny it's existence.

The possible retcon of TLKII's placement in the storyline wouldn't really hinder any future re-releases or sales for the film. Parents and their kids aren't really all that concerned about continuity, nor has any old product ever sold less just because it doesn't really fit in the timeline. If it has The Lion King's name on it, then that's all that really matters.
