I have the original 1997 cast recording with bonus DVD. It is simply amazing. The instrumentals are awesome.

My father bought mine on ITunes when I was 13 years old. I don't listen to it much anymore but I love the music. It sparks my imagination. I often imagined myself being part of the show. And sometimes I imagine my own version of the show. It's kind of the same but with minor tweaks.
For example, Shadowland: I imagined skeleton animals (moved by string puppets) walking on the stage during the instrumental part as an emphasis on how terrible Scar's reign was and eventually singing with the lionesses then disappearing just before Nala's ending. And later Mufasa's wind would blow past Nala guiding in the direction of the oasis.
