I recently found these scanned newspaper clippings from the Salt Lake City Deseret News, June 24, 1994. I thought you might find these interesting. I put them on my PhotoBucket account and linked to them. I hope this was done correctly.

The front page of the Weekend Insert. (scroll down for close up view)

Close up of the Weekend Insert. I hope you guys can read it.

Continued on the next page. Basically discusses what the actor said during a press conference held by Disney. Point of interest: Broderick jokes about this film will last through the years unlike his other films (Oh the irony). Also, James Earl Jones says his totem animal is a lion and he took the role for his kid.

Image
Cover of the Movie Reviews from the same paper. The Lion King's is in the left column, next to the red arrow. Actual review is below this picture (it was on the next page in the paper).

Image
Actual review of the motion picture made by the paper's film critic. Points of interest: He says the final climatic fight between Scar and Simba was unintentionally funny. He also says the film's songs are not memorable. Uh...sure

Image
Associated Press report on the marketing campaign by Disney. Found directly to the right of the review.

Image
Promotional ad to see it in theatres. Back when papers used to have these.

The front cover of the newspaper.

Snippet on the bottom right hand corner of the front page mentioning the weekend insert (the first scanned image).

Anyway what do you think?

Nice find. I wish I was old enough back then to appreciate TLK on its release.

Whoa, these are nice to look at. Also, they didn't think the songs in the movie are memorable? That's just too funny. XD
