I've been wondering that for a while. They seem to be the same goldish-yellow, and in cliparts they have the same color too. But in some fanarts the colors of Mufasa and Simba differ.
What is the one and only correct answer to this question? It confuses me a bit.

Nope, not the same ^^ Mufasa is darker and mor orange.
But it is very close.

Annie's right. if you do a direct comparison and look at some quality screengrabs, Mufasa has darker fur. for some reason each generation seems to get lighter and lighter in main fur coloration. Ahadi's darker than Mufasa, Mufasa's darker than Simba, and Simba is darker than both Kopa and Kiara. I guess it's the lionesses they're with bringing in lighter color genes or something.

The thing that confuses me, is this: when Mufasa's fur color is slightly darker than Simba's, why is their colour the same on clipart and most merchandise? Even the Simba and Mufasa figurines have the same color! D:

I'm not sure if the comparison is between adult Simba and Mufasa or cub Simba and Mufasa. Whatever the case is, I looked through some of MLK.com's screenshots to try to find two screenshots showing Mufasa and adult Simba during approximately the same time of day, when their colors would be the most accurate.

In this screenshot, cub Simba's fur is obviously lighter than Mufasa's. However, in this screenshot, adult Simba's fur is darker, and when I compared his coat color to Mufasa's, I found that they were almost identical.

As for their colors appearing the same in various merchandise, I guess it was just a way of cutting corners. After all, the stuff is marketed toward kids, who probably aren't going to care if cub Simba's fur is the same color as Mufasa's.

In this picture it's pretty obvious that their fur colors are different.


However in this picture adult Simba's fur seems to be almost the same color as Mufasa's.

So I think Simba's fur turns darker as he gets older. Once he reaches Mufasa's age their fur colors are identical.

EDIT: Holy crap, Akril just said the same thing I did. LOL

Simba was supposed to look a lot like Mufasa and since Scar got them mixed up when Simba confronts him as an adult he must look pretty similar.

now that I see it, I think that Simba's mane has lighter mane color
