I love Nuka, so of course I wish he could have lived, but his death gives us more insight into the character of Zira. She would barely pay attention to him, only showing him the slighest bit of appreciation while he was dying. And even after having to endure that loss, she continued with her plot to kill Simba. Maybe if Zira was a bit less ruthless, she would have given up, having realized that her dedication to avenging Scar had led to the death of her own son.
So I don't think Nuka deserved his death, but it was a great way of demonstrating the fact that Zira would stop at nothing.

Hold on there for a second... Scar wasn't Nuka's father. Besides, Nuka did it rather to try to impress his mother and finally get her attention.

It was a blow to Zira - she always gave her son little attention because he wasn't 'the chosen one' and suddenly he's not there. Zira is sad about this but it is too late. It shows that she has a care somewhere inside for the viewer... just not enough.
For that it could give reason for his death. But just think had he lived, then he would not be so yielding at the end and could have been more of a bother to Simba amd co.; perhaps perishing anyway.

Nuka's death parallels the death of Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet. By driving Zira even further into insanity, it is the catalyst for the final battle, which gives Kovu and Kiara the opportunity to end the story.
That being said, I'm sure there's a better way the writers could have done that, without killing off one of the more interesting characters in SP.

I liked Nuka, he is the funniest character in TLK2. And it's sad that his death were so badly written. They just mourn over him for 5 seconds and then it's over. I didn't like that.

As much as I did not like it, I feel like his death was needed. Like the others said, it was needed to push Zira over the edge to insinuate the final fight with Simba. I do wish there was a bit more sadness over his death, but I really like how they showed a different side of Zira that you did not get to see for the beginning of the movie. So I think his death is necessary, and the writers did a good job of handling it.
I also felt that the death scene made you almost side with Zira. You got to see and feel why Zira was starting the finale fight, you got a little more emotionally invested into Zira. I still wish that they ended up going with the original death scene, that is much sadder!

I think he would die earlier or later. I don't think he would join Pridelanders, he would try to save Zira...
And most of the people like or even love Nuka, so it was this 'touching point'...I don't think I would cry after Simba or Kiara.
He's just an interesing character and unfortunately most of the Disney's interesting characters die.

I know Scar wasn't his father but he still was raised like that.
