Yeah I think he was way too protective of her. Then again, many fathers are overprotective of their daughters - and Simba is a king, so there's another reason to be protective.

She can't do anything without Simba doing something about it during the movie. But I think he changes towards the end.

In the end he does but during the movie he can't stop her from living her own life with out Simba getting in the way

I think he's protective only because he once lose her son,Kopa,and now he didn't want Kiara to die.
