Nala's Design and Character - what would you change?

Postby ScarsLove » February 13th, 2013, 3:44 pm

Inspired by PrincessKiara's Kiara Design thread.

What would you change about Nala?

Do you like the current design or would you change it back to the old one?

Do you prefer this design over the old one?

What extra stuff would you add that you didn't like? What stuff would you keep?

I would personally change it back to the original Nala and keep everything the same. I hate her new design and character. They've dulled her down into a boring house wife with bleach fur and blue eye contacts.

Yeah, I would want them to keep Nala the same as the original movie. It really annoyed me in SP, and I couldn't like her as much as I did in the first one because her design was different and really bad lol.

I would revert back to the original Nala design with turquoise/green (or teal) eyes, and darker shade of the fur she had in the first film. I remember Nala's eyeshades being colored differently in some scenes, so I would revert back to the way they were shown in the original film.

I would change her back to the original design. Let her have more lines. More scenes with Kiara to teach her how to be a queen.

I would definitly change her back to the original TLK design, the blue eyes are pretty, but they`re not Nala. Her eyes were never blue in the first movie, green is better.

Otherwise, I would have added more lines to her, she barely speaks in the whole movie. I really dislike the fact that her character was so downplayed in the sequel. She has her moments, but overall I feel the strong personality from TLK is sadly lacking, like becoming a mother and a little older has changed her into some airhead who is meant to sit by Simbas side and look pretty, but never utter an opinion against him.

And I would have loved it if the mother-daughter relationship was given some time/chance to develop and be shown clearly.

Lol, I hate how Nala looks in SP. As someone said... she's just not herself. I mean, she is pretty but her eyes are totally different, and so is her coat etc. :?
I know they couldn't make her completely the same (Simba looked silently different too, and so did Zazu and the others) but... they should have at least kept her eyes green. That doesn't sound that hard, does it?

I like her personality mostly. She has few lines (I agree, not enough) but almost all of them are quite meaningful and she truly does add to the plot. She practically "calms down" Simba's overprotective attitude towards Kiara, by understanding both sides, and by seeing good in Kovu.

However, I do agree her connection with Kiara isn't developed enough. They look more like sisters than mother and daughter, the way they were presented in the movie. Nala even said to Simba once: "You own him your daughter's life." It would be awesome seeing Nala having some mother - daughter moments with Kiara, maybe giving her bath, like Sarabi did to Simba in the 1st movie. Or maybe by giving her advices, or anything that is deeper than a few hugs during the movie.

Maybe a few more of her with Simba could be great too. Their relationship seems to have been put aside as well.

Anyway, in general I do like SP Nala. Of course, not as much as in TLK but... sometimes we can't have everything our way. Let's face it, she's not that bad. XD

I pretty much hate how EVERYONE looks in SP (seriously, how difficult can it be to just stick with the original colours? Why was there even a need to mess around with them in the first place? Do not understand) so I would definitely change Nala's (and everyone else's) design back to how it was in the first film. I would also give her her personality back because that's a big issue too.

I wish everyone looked the same as in the first movie. Especially Simba, I'm more annoyed by Simbas design in the second movie than Nalas.

^ This. I also dislike the drastic changes in their builds. They're rounder and less fluffy.
I especially dislike what happened to Simba's chin... But about Nala, I definitely wish they would have kept her original design. In the second movie she is pretty, but she doesn't look like herself.
In fact, I saw an image on deviantArt about this once; the description rather amused me.
Image
Nala was shocked and angered when She Arrived on the Set of TLK2 from a break after auditions (pfff audition?? How and Why would she NEED to even Audition!?!? She was Nala in the very first film!! She can most Definatly do the Second film!... Hell, She IS Nala!)..... When she got news from her agent that she did NOT land the role! Instead the role was given to her Stunt Double Moira!!!!!

After confronting and yelling at Moira, then being threatened to be escorted off the set, she stormed off muttering and yelling to anyone that would listen that this was an outrage! Unfair, and that the movie would BOMB!
The same person did one of these for Simba too.
After receiving a call from Nala about her stunt double Moira getting her role in the second TLK film.... Simba decided to make a surprise visit to the set.... Only to meet the same fate... Even he was being shut out of the second film! And was being replaced by his stunt double Matt!!!
Simba caused an Uproar (pun intended) and was escorted off set. Called his lawyer, and lost his case! When he asked the question of "Why" ...... he was told "Matt costs less money than you Simba..... So the creators of the film were looking to save a buck, because you are just TOO expensive......"

I saw that before, but it's still funny every time. I can't help but wonder what the animators were thinking when they changed the designs of every character like that.
