Yeah, I did too. After all, how did Simba mark the path? In SP, if you look closely, you can see that the path Kiara was on is full of footprints and stuff, so I think those were supposed to be the marks, but come on now, we all know how cats and dogs mark territory...

Poor Kiara.

No, I never smiled or laughed when Simba said that line. However, when I was young, I always wondered what meant Simba meant by that line. I never saw a trail he supposedly marked for Kiara.

That was until I viewed this thread: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=7921

^The paws on the dirt trail off to the lower right is Simba's pawprints proving DGFone's point.

What a subtle, non-verbal story tactic the filmmakers used to tell you that Kiara is disobeying her father. How I missed that, I will never know. Perhaps my old television set cropped off the side of the screenshot above making the pawprint trail not visible on my TV...or perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough.

I never actually thought of that. I always imagined something like this, even though it doesn't make much sense for lions to be able to make markers like this.

I was 12 when SP was released, and it was years before I saw the English version (I grew up with the Norwegian one) and that line (in either language) never made me think that Simba had marked the path by spraying urine.
In fact, when I was a kid and saw the movie, the line gave me a mental image of this nice little path lined with stones on both sides, like a garden path.. Totally stupid, I know, but that was what I automatically thought of when Simba said "path he had marked.."

I never really noticed the paw prints until I saw a topic about it here on MLK, and I was very pleased by the symbolism. You can see Kiara halting and looking down the path for a short moment before she heads in the other direction.

I never laughed at the line because when I first saw the movie, I was like 6 and I didn't know how animals marked their territory, and for as long as I can remember, I've always seen the trail of pawprints, so I knew exactly what he was referring to each subsequent time, and my mind never wandered to what real animals might do to mark something.
