How would Simba have come of age if Mufasa hadn't died?

This was something I wondered while I re-watched TLK last night. During JCWTBK, Simba behaves (as can be expected for a young child) terribly, mocking and ditching Zazu, who is in a position of authority over him. Obviously it's the events in the movie that force him to grow up, but I was wondering how it would have panned out if Mufasa hadn't have died. If Scar was completely incompetent and not very good at killing anybody.

How would Simba have come to learn that being king wasn't all bossing people around? He doesn't learn much of anything at all until he comes back to the Pridelands to see it destroyed. I have a couple of thoughts as to how it would have panned out, but I'm interested in seeing everybody else's first.

Sorry if this is disjointed or if there's been a topic like this before; I tried to use the search function but it didn't work and I just took a dose of Nyquil so I'm not too sure how coherent I am.

I think Mufasa would have set him straight as he got older; although there really wouldn't be a Lion King if Mufasa survived. ;)

Right. ;) It's all speculative. I am sometimes overly analytical, even when it comes to kids' movies. b: I still like hearing peoples' opinions, though!

Simba would have grown from a rambunctious young cub, to maybe a rebellious teen, but eventually, Mufasa and Sarabi, even with some help if they needed it, would have set him straight and proper. The only reason why Simba was mean as a cub was because that's how all young children are.

I could see Muffy and Sarabi sending Simba away for a season or two to 'straighten' him out. You know how young male lions are kicked out of the pride when they come of age? I can see them sending Simba away to see how she should be 'grateful' and to teach him self sufficiency.

I agree with what everyone has said, As Simba grew older Mufasa's and Sarabi's teachings would have made more sense, and Simba would have grown into what a Prince should be.

He'd be mumbling about the stars every day until Simba has enough and puts him in the old animated actors home.

No clue why Disney doesn't return my calls :D
