During the beginning of the Lion King, when Mufasa is arguing with Scar, he states:
"That hairball is my son, and your future king!
I know he was talking about Simba eventaully presiding over Scar one day, but I think it had a hidden meaning to indicate later events in the film, particularly Scar becomes king.
What do you guys think?

What would it be foreshadowing exactly? =3 I get the main meaning - that Simba will one day be King, but what other meanings could there be?

I think he just says that because he thinks that Scar should give Simba a little more respect. Besides, it sounds like something a king would say about his son every once in a while.

If Mufasa said "and you're future king, then yes. He would be saying that you are going to be king. (which is what I used to think when I was little, which made it very confusing, obviously.)
But because he says "your", implying that Simba would rule over Scar one day, being his king, ie. "your" king, I think it was just so show the audience that Simba would be king.

I don`t think there is any foreshadowing here. Mufasa is simply telling Scar to start showing Simba some respect because he is the future ruler. (As in, Scar would have to obey his command one day)

I agree with this.

I just thought the writer was hinting that Scar will one day be king by having Mufasa say, "Your future king," which, When coming out of Mufasa's mouth means that Simba WILL preside over Scar one day, but the writers meant for it to mean that, too. Huh. Oh well.

It's not foreshadowing. Mufasa simply means that Scar will be one of Simba's subjects one day, so he had better start showing some respect. With the birth of Simba (the king's heir) Scar would normally never ascend to the throne.

And hence the story line.
