Yeah, this is something I always wondered. According to the movie, Zira trained Kovu to kill Simba, but it never really tells us how she trained him. Did she make him train with the other lions, or did she just make him hunt, or feed him well? XD

They never really said how Kovu would kill Simba either, and personally, I feel that Kovu wouldn't really win against Simba in a fight, because of the difference in age and size >.>

So what do you think? :B

I don't think he was trained as hard as people think. He did turn good after all, so he mustn't have been tooo brainwashed.

Yeah. I don't think he was trained to the point were he was so brainwashed he was a robot.

It is not necessarily that he would win in a one on one fight, remember that numerous times in TLK2 we are reminded of Kovu's hunting skills. So that is the advantage he has, let us not forget that he used Kiara as a leverage to get closer to Simba, which in itself is kind of cowardly anyway. Like in Macbeth when Macbeth kills that guy in his sleep (referencing Shakespeare again).

So yeah he clearly was trained well, but in the sense of hunting and being sly rather than being strong, I think. Which kind of makes sense, because that is how Scar was as well.

I don`t think Kovu was brainwashed, at least not entirely. I think Zira focused a lot on physical training: Making Kovu strong and skilled at hunting/stalking and fighting.
I think she mainly trained with him one-on-one, and not in a group.

All the physical training is useless unless Kovu is brainwashed as well. You can see it in the "you are ready scene, when Kovu repeats the lines he was taught like a machine. Well, not quite. He had brainwashed emotions in them. But as far as Zira was concerned, Kovu was her machine. A loss for Zira in that she failed to brainwash him properly. As soon as he was in another environment, all of Zira's hard work crumpled away.

Right. Zira planted these ideas in Kovus head that his destiny was to avenge Scar and kill Simba.. but he was quite quick to abandon Ziras plans once he got close to Kiara. If he had been truly brainwashed, he would have been able to go through with killing Simba without getting distracted. That`s what I think, at least.
So I think Kovu was brainwashed to a certain extent, he felt like Scar was a part of him, that he had the same darkness in him (because that`s what Zira had been telling him all his life).. But Zira had not managed to get through to him, not completly.. Kovu was never evil or cold to begin with, and Zira couldn`t mould him into a second Scar.

She made him do push-ups every day.

Hello, it's kind of obvious that he must of had some extreme killer training to kill a KING.. She probably taught him all the known hunting tactics, how to easily kill his prey, how to have a good endurance and things like that. And besides, this is Zira we're talking about. She probably beat him up every time he did things wrong so he would try harder to improve.

i agree with this. The king is the most powerful in a pride, Kovu is as strong as Simba if not moreso

but there is more to this, he would have gone through a ton mental training aswell. when he was a cub he didnt want to do it really by the time we see him he wants to so bad and also hes killing someone and is fine with it. the only reason it failed was his own liking of their way of life and falling for Kiara, something you CANNOT get rid of easy
