Nala's Confusing Sentence Explained.

As some of you have noticed, there is one line in Lion King II that people seem to have misunderstood it's meaning. It took a long time for me to recognize, but I finally realized what it meant.

In one scene, Simba and Nala are looking down on Kovu and Kiara and talking about Scar and his heirs. Nala says, "You want so much to walk the path of your father. Perhaps Kovu does not."

What this means is that Simba is (obviously) trying to be like his father, kind, loving, and wise. (Although this is only really a theory, I believe that Scar must have adopted Kovu because that would be the only explanation to this next part.) She is thinking that Kovu does not. What she means is that Scar's evil, and he is supposedly his adopted father. If Kovu doesn't walk the path of his father, he is good.

So in a nutshell, Simba wants to be like his father who is good. She was thinking that Kovu didn't want to follow in his father, Scar's, footprints as he was evil.

Does this explain anything to you all? (:

I never thought that line was confusing, but maybe because of the portuguese version. She says "You want so much to walk the path destined for you. Perhaps Kovu does not."

She says "You want so much to walk the path expected of you." though, doesn't she? ;)

I agree it took a bit of thought to completely understand the sentence. Especially in Swedish. I didn't actually get it until I saw the film in English, because in the Swedish dub, Nala emphasizes the wrong words and makes it sound like she means that Kovu doesn't want Simba to "do what is expected of him"... :huh9:
