An Observation of Simba I Made...

I've been thinking about this a little bit, and I've noticed when Simba was arguing with Nala, he brought up 'Hakuna Matata' telling her an excuse. That, I find nothing very interesting, but it's the way he says it that intrigues me. When he's talking, it sounds as though he's trying to assure himself he can't go back and Nala's wrong. He's not sure, but he doesn't want to believe the truth.
What are your thoughts?

Interesting find. It's sorta natural.. We all experience similar moments in our life where we don't want to face the truth and try to convince ourselves we are right when we know we're not. It doesn't surprise me that Simba would do the same in such a situation.

I think he wanted to keep Nala with him no matter what, without explaining his reasons for not coming back and intruduce her to his life style. In a script draft, right after Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Simba tells her "Nala, you'll love it here!", so he was expecting her to stay. He thought "Well, she loves me, she'll stay with me no matter what, without questioning."

I think you're right, that he was saying it to himself aswell. The way he says it seems like he is trying to re assure himself.

I agree, it was obvious that Simba didn't wanted to take that responsibility at that moment since he lived most of he's live with the Hakuna Matata phrase

Judging by the seemingly random nature of his saying it, and the ton of voice he said it in, I've always found it extremely difficult to figure out what he was thinking and to this day can't really come to any conclusion. But, judging by the way he said it, it sounds more to me like an excuse, not like he was trying to convince himself of anything by saying it.
