Chatspeak! Didn't I read something somewhere about chatspeak being against the rules or guidelines on this site? Yet, I see it all the time :/ I don't think using it in the chatroom is a huge issue, but seeing it in the forums is... well... I dunno how to put it... unprofessional? Lazy? Or are we allowed to do that? :/ would someone mind clarifying the official rules (if any) regarding chatspeak on MLK?

I'm pretty sure as long as people understand you, a little chatspeak is okay, such as "brb" or "LOL". However try not to use too much because there are some noobs and new members that might not understand. ;) This rule is most strictly enforced in the RP sections where it is essential that everybody understand each others posts.
*is sounding like a mod*

Logic assumes that it isn't ok. The rules say that English is the only language to be used in the Forums, and brb lol omg etc do not appear in the English language..
However I think it's up to the staff, and it seems to be fine because I too have witnessed quite a bit of this lately. In the RP section or Fan Fictions: anything like that it just ruins the immersion for the reader.

Actually you could check up the site's rules in the Universal Rules thread, and see that there's no rule against l33t speak. It's more an indicator of a member's maturity, and how much they value the posts they make. Or it could just be habit or laziness. Whatever the cause, LOL BRB OMGWTFBBQ are here to stay =3 Fighting the internet on that one's a pretty tough battle, except in the case of advanced RPs, and staff related/MLK contest threads where the Staff posts need to be professional.

We do not have any official rules against using SMS in posts. The posts that SMS-users make are often skipped over by other members. Most people don't want to spend the time to decipher the post. I rarely see SMS posts. People seem to know that the best way to make your post is to use proper English... so I don't think its too much of a problem.

What confused me about the rules: was that there is no rule against it but there is one saying posts must be made in English, and it's not English.

Although it’s not proper English, chatspeak is just shortned English words/expressions.. f.ex BRB stands for Be Right Back, it doesn’t originate from a foreign language.

In a way, its English slang. Like PK said, it isn't a foreign language.

That being said, I think this thread can be locked now. If anyone has anything more to add, they can pm the staff or myself.
