I noticed something a little weird just now. Our newest member is RusselLep.... he joined on October 11th. That's almost two months ago. Okay, I know MLK has lost a lot of activity but holy crap, TWO months without a single new member??? How has no one noticed this? This site is going to die unless we start attracting more people.

EDIT: I decided to look through the Memberslist and now it gets even weirder. The rate of new members was roughly 8 new people a day, until October 11th.....and then it just cuts off completely. What the hell happened on that day? Is registration not working for new members?

I remember Moka mentioned that he had received emails from guests who were unable to register so I think he's aware of it.
IIRC it's to do with the anti spam measures that were put in place.
But yeah I have noticed that as well, I don't think MLK will die because of it lol

That certainly seems pretty odd to me. I know we used to have a different Newest Member every day, so... yeah, wonder what's up? Hope we can get it fixed. I'd hate to lose a bunch of potential new members over something like that.

Anti spam? Was there even a spam problem to begin with? If so the solution isn't to cover the forum in so much red tape that registration is literally impossible lol.

I mean it's an unintended side effect. MLK doesn't have a wall to keep out unwanted members. Not yet anyway.

MLK will build a wall to keep out the spam-bots and Google will pay for it.

To be completely fair, though, Amanda, from what I have heard there are a lot of spammers that join. Not actual people but robots mostly, trying to advertise porn or other ad websites. That kind of thing. I see them around occasionally. There are many more that get blocked by the mods before they post, however.

This one's a pretty infamous example. (I still LOL a bit).

I agree that it's worrying not to have new members, but I understand the anti-spam "barrier". But, why only concerned now, though? Do you know someone who has tried to join and couldn't?
I mean, like you mentioned, there are no new members since October 11th, but most people don't really check the forum's member list for fun, therefore my question.

Well I noticed it just from the lack of new intro threads being posted.
But what difference would it make if I knew someone who tried to join or not? The point is that guests are quite obviously trying to register and can't.

I honestly didn't notice the lack of introduction topics and simply thought someone Amanda knew had attempted to join and couldn't, so she dig into the issue a bit further. I was simply concerned for that person and thought it'd be harmless to ask, but okay.
