Hya, I have a suggestion
At the moment we have the weekly "artist of the week" contest for the fanart talents of this forum. Maybe it's also a nice idea to do a monthly contest, the way they do on TLKFAA: One person starts with a theme, like "halloween" and everyone starts drawing halloween-related TLK pics. Then at the end of the month, there's a voting for the winner of the entries.
The winner gets a prize/banner/whatever and chooses the theme for the next month.
In this way the drawers have a challenge and some inspiration in case of art blocks!
Let me know what you think about it, if you are ok with it, may I be the starter of the first monthly contest?

All of those pics are already welcome in the fan art of the week contest =) I made it very inclusive for that reason lol ^.^ Like say you wanted to do a h'ween style version of Simba, that's fine, you can submit that in fan art of the week.

If you're talking about completely off-topic art, then yea I guess you could start a contest in the OT art section for people that don't want to draw TLK

I think this sounds like a great idea. Go for it.

I acctually did a contest like this on here, but know one entered lol.

difference between the weekly and monthly are these:

montly contest has a theme, theme is made up by winner of former monthly contest.

each winner bar is different, due to the theme the contest was of.

people who find it hard to decide what to draw, have inspiration by the theme.

the monthly contest-starter can state the following demands on the artwork:
(examples)
"only canon pics"
"new pics only"
"multiple pics allowed per artist"

So it's not that open anymore, and there will be work to be done! Hope you guys like the idea!

So this will be in the OT section? It's just that the fan artist of the week contest already allows for just about anything like that to be submitted. If it's got a theme it won't always be TLK art.

no it IS tlk, but with a theme.Theme's CAN be halloween, but it must be lion king characters that are celebrating halloween in that pic.
you can also choose one particular character and hold the contest about that, like "Mufasa's childhood"

Or like a couple "themes" of TLKFAA contests have been:

Yes, the Cosplay-fever has found its way to our lionesses, hyenas, meerkats...! Everyone finished sewing their Cosplay and are now on their way to a convention! The whole gang enjoys themselves, having fun...

So your task is it to draw at least one TLK character (can be lion or another lion king character!) wearing a Cosplay. A Cosplay is a costume which depicts any anime/manga hero, a cartoon character or a character from a video game (also from TLK :])

In the first movie the characters we know and love were only half of the show. The world they lived in, the environments they moved through, the setting of their stories...what would TLK be without backgrounds?

Backgrounds are the bane of many a fanartist (including myself), though some excel at them. One of the biggest challenges is the integration of cartoon characters with a backdrop: this is the contest goal.

Your task is to create a piece of art with a bg as well as at least one character. The background should set a mood that appropriately reflects the actions of the character(s), and the styles of the two separate pieces should complement one another so that the entire picture makes a single powerful impact. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a realistic or naturalistic bg either...stylistic, abstract, geometric, even urban backgrounds are acceptable as long as they match the story of the characters placed within them.

My hope is that the focus of voters will be the background, but remember that it’s only the stage. The pics that rise to this challenge won’t be complete without actors using those fantastic backdrops! "

And so on and so forth going back in time with each winner of the contest designing the next... did I help get the point across a little better? Basically each month is a brand new contest.

Like I said, there's just nothing in this contest that can't be submitted to the fan art of the week contest. All it would take is editing in one line to the contest to suggest themes. I'll do that for next week =)
