About Threads Auto-Locking

Okay at first I was all right about this, but now it really is just becoming a nuisance. What exactly is the point in this being there again? It does not really prevent a thread from being bumped since we can ask for it to be unlocked anyway.

Just now I wanted to start a nice discussion about sports, and the thread locked itself, to be fair the last post was made in 2009, so I can kind of see why you would have that. But now I am going to ask a member of staff to unlock it, and so I do not really see the point of it being locked in the first place, if that makes sense?
Similarly if I wanted to update my graphics thread, it would lock itself and while I do not mind waiting for staff to unlock it, it is inconvenient and I would have to wait until the next day to make the post

Just suggesting that you could look into a different way of doing it. It is not as if it is really doing much... Unless it is there for an important reason that I may have forgot, in which case I apologise and please disregard everything I just said XD

I agree with you. The only reason they are locked was to prevent mindless bumping, but that only happened once or twice and probably won't be repeated again. I believe there should just be a rule about mindless bumping and not bumping in general, because some don't follow the rules doesn't mean the entire forum has to face the consequences.

I also agree. I think this should be removed. A rule about bumping would do just fine.

Alas a very stupid and pointless thing on the forum.
Just because a few fools a while back decided to bump old topics with spam posts doesn't mean the whole forum should pay the price for their spamming.
I hope this is removed.

Yeah, I agree, it's a pain in the butt to have to unlock every thread that someone requests, when the requests have been pouring in like everytime I log in. >.>

So yeah, I agree needless feature, just a rule about bumping would be fine.

I have to agree. It does sound like a great idea to make a no bumping rule, that way we don't have to ask for things to be unlocked and the mods don't have to run around unlocking threads at our beck and call.

For a long time, I thought that the topics were locked by request! But I now know that I am wrong. Yeah, an auto-locking rule seems to be quite pointless. I don't see why we need it.

Well some topics are locked upon request of the topic creator.

I don't think there needs to be a rule about bumping at all, since there is already a rule against spam, and since mindless bumping is always spam, it pretty much takes care of itself. ;) Also most bumping isn't even harmful, such as the graphics/sports thread examples that Flip gave.

I agree with Flip about this rule. A few days ago I had to ask WS to unlock two of my own OC topics, and while it wasn't that much of a pain since he was already online, suppose I had wanted to have all my old OC topics unlocked? That would just create more work for the staff who have a lot of work as it is. And if none of them had been online at the time, that would just make it a lot more inconvenient for me. xP So yeah, I am for removing this rule and reporting those who decide to bump old topics with useless spam. :D
