The battle between Disney and Soney.

The battle between Disney and Soney.

Postby gothprincesskiara » August 27th, 2019, 2:25 am

PLEASE READ I NEED SOME DISNEY FAN ADVICE.
I have been a Disney fan my whole life, it has been an escape from the stressful, harsh, cruel, screwed up reality, it has been my lollypops and Rainbows, my flowers to smell and butterflies to admire its beauty. I grew as a Disney Princess fan and have seen them as positive role models and used the lessons and positive examples they have given me when being a woman, and a fighting warrior. Disney has taught me how to dream. Now the Lion King was what made me grow into who I am today. Lion King is what made me fall in love with Lions, animals and Africa, and most of all Lion King was what made me discover my artistic side and sparked my imagination and creativity, because when Lion King came out I just started drawing lions on paper and I did it a lot, plus my other favorite animated classes made me fall in love with the animation and art of it all which is what made me so fascinated with behind the scenes. Plus growing up with music in my life, and playing the violin, it has also made me fall in love with the music of the movies I love. So Disney has been a big fantasy for me, helped me be happy, feel good, motivated, inspired, and has been a big part of who I am today, and it has helped me get through my toughest times in life even with my depression from my deep knowledge on how screwed up our world really is and Disney is also guilty for that yes because of that money greed. I have learned that life is not all about Money, I never payed attention to the fact it was always about the money for them, they have put so much magic of emotion and feeling as well as lesson and inspiration in to there films, that they give there viewers and fans And it shows even when you watch behind the scenes. Movies and TV shows SHOULD NOT just be about entertainment and for money, cause that’s not the way I see it as a Disney fan, what I care about is it being from a Edutainment point of view, it’s the lessons and messages that matter, not the money, I understand they need this kind of money to continue to work their magic, but they should really be focusing on what really matters and what we humans need to survive and thrive in this world, our planet is heating up and all they care about is money? ! Ok well what about the other parts of Disney that ARE trying to educate the public, for example, The Lion Guard was to help educate and inspire kids to want to help save wildlife. And then there is the Disney Conservation Fund and their department to help save the planet and animals and the other planet saving programs, I have seen them trying to send the right message of what’s really important in this world. I also hoped that the Lion King remake would win big an for a sequel, and mostly I see it as a way to open eyes of audiences to really respect these animals more and would want to help save them. Now I’m not saying other films like Marvel isn’t important, Disney’s Super hero films are very important too, and set a very good example of fighting for the greater good and fighting for what’s right and above all fighting off evil in our world, another way of seeing the good we still have in this world, and again it inspires others to want to be heroes too. Spider-Man is an Avenger now, Marvel/Tony has given that to him and now they are dis-honoring Tony and Stan Lees legendary work to argue with Soney over the money, this has been a very ridiculous greedy selfish act from them when they have movie numbers in counting every day of every second! I have seen that most of us Disney fans are smart and wise enough to agree on this. I thought Disney was supposed to set a better example of what really matters in life and helping our planet, money greed is what is killing our planet, We expected better from them. But now I don’t know what to think, because since the whole Fox thing that I could never understand taking over, and what they are doing with Disney plus, I fear that who ever took over Disney all for money to rule the world and to continue to blindly kill our planet all for money, well they are betraying Walt and other fans. Cause I have been trying to continue to learn about Walt, and I know he loved and respected nature too and he did have the Idea of Animal Kingdom and his Idea was fulfilled, I really don’t care what others may say that Disney hated kids or there was hidden dirty things in the films, whether it’s been true or not I have ignored it, because its just not right to present that and to children, I have never really noticed anything growing up watching my classic films. Now after me explaining my opinion and point of view as a Disney fan, I need all you fellow Disney fans to help me, what is your opinion as a Disney fan on what Disney is doing? Do we stop being Disney fans or Is all of Disney to blame. I’m going to Disney World this fall, and I'm just feeling lost right now.

Wew ok so,

While I am a huge Disney fan since being a child and will always love their films, I can admit that as a whole Disney is a greedy money hungry media giant. They own so much of the world that many people don't even realize. The moments in the movies that tug at your heartstrings is all thanks to the love and labor the people behind the scenes, such as animators, designers, programmers etc., put into it. Corporate Disney though only cares about the money and business side of it.

Disney does a lot of things to remain on top, even at the cost of smaller businesses or groups or artists. Many of the stories that the movies are based on are public domain, yet Disney will try to own the rights to it. Much of the music, especially classical pieces such as those used in Fantasia, are public domain and they try to commandeer it as well.

Before Disney bought out the whole Marvel franchise, Sony owned (and still owns) the rights to the character of Spiderman. The reason Spiderman appeared in some of the Disney Avengers movies is because Sony allowed Disney to borrow him. Now Disney is getting greedy and wants to own 50% of the profits from the solo Spiderman movies that Sony wants to make with Tom Holland Spiderman, even though they were already getting a portion of the profits from the solo Spiderman movies AS WELL AS owning the profits for all the merchandise having to do with Spiderman. Basically the only profit Sony was making was a portion from their stand alone Spiderman films like Homecoming and Far From Home.

The Lion King wasn't free from problem either. Read up on the whole Lion King/Kimba the White Lion issue back when the movie was going to be made. I've added two pictures in reference to that including some early concept art where Simba was clearly going to be an albino cub.

Also in case you were wondering here is a list of things Disney owns:

If you ever need any evidence that Disney is all about money, just go to Disney World lol.
Christ; I think I paid about $3.50 for a bottle of water last time I was there.
But they are trying to do things good for the planet too. They stopped using the little plastic bottles of shampoo for instance and now have one refillable one in the resort rooms (this saves a ton of plastic waste, consider how many resorts and rooms Disney own, its tons and tons)
They also just switch from plastic to paper straws.
And if you buy anything at Animal Kingdom and ask them to keep the change all change is donated toward the Disney Conservation fund. Which as of 2018 had raised more than $65 million to the conservation of wildlife in their natural habitats.
so its not all doom and gloom.

But yes, they are a company with shareholders that need to be pleased. And unfortunately they are such a big company that in order to keep making more money than they did the previous year, they really are nickel and dimming customers now.

I mean the fact that Disney+ is even a thing at all when their shows and movies were perfectly fine and available on Netflix and then Disney just removed them off so that they could resell them to us via Disney+... Its not cool.

This is the real problem--not just with Disney, but with pretty much every large company. Perpetual growth is, by definition, not a stable business model.

i’m not going to advocate for socialism but corporate greed, which seems to be getting bigger and bigger over time, is why a lot of young people now especially those on the left side of the political spectrum see themselves as socialists.

i keep on reading how the wealth gap will continually go in the favor of the rich and that the next possible recession will hit milennials harder than the 2008 one did.

i can’t blame them for being fed up with the system as it currently is.
Why do we fall? So that we can learn to pick ourselves back up again.

Yeah, I don't think they have hit the ceiling just yet but they are getting very close. Like Disney+... just take your movies away from my Netflix subscription and ask me to rebuy them from you instead, thanks Disney. But that's just the tip of what they are doing, they are also building a Star Wars hotel that will START at a rate of $3000 ($1000 a night / 3 day package required). Park attendance dropped this year because of the insane prices but they still made more money by offering more expensive experiences to those who can still afford to go. They know what they are doing.
Not enough for them to just make some money anymore, now they need to make all the money that can possible be made.

And that ultimately, is why this thread exists and why Spider Man is no longer going to be part of the Marvel Universe. That alone is absurd and I can hardly believe its the reality we now live in. If they'd have just kept the same deal, we wouldn't be having the conversation.
Or Sony; they made what $350 million from Into The Spider-Verse? I loved that movie. But it didn't made $1billion like Far From Home did so its not enough from them to be able to take the 50/50 Disney deal on the Tom Holland movies. This is sad. Its money put before fans and as far as I am concerned both are in the wrong.

Not that I don't appreciate Malibu's list, but this nice graphic is another good look at things.

Yeah, pretty much. Think Piketty in his book called this out at the macro level; GDP growth is achieved, by definition, through growth in productivity or growth in number of people producing. So population growth drives increases in GDP, even if population growth is most certainly not an inherently good thing.

Growth is a weird metric for a mature company or economy to be obsessed with. Cognizant of, sure. But not obsessed with.
