What's there to say about the Illuminati? The closest such a thing came to existence was that it got to rule the world in one of the endings for the original Deus Ex.

The world is too big for one organization to rule.

Not exactly RL, is it? Besides, I don't play AC anyways, but even I know that we don't live in some strange Matrxi world thingy. Even the blind can tell when a bright white loading screen pops up every 5 steps they take.

Uhh... yeah, that's the point. I get the feeling whoever wrote that also thinks the Templar Order still exists today and is trying to control the world.

Yes, there's a New World Order, Bush was responsible for 9/11, and we never landed on the moon.

They're called conspiracy theories for a reason. Either they use incredible troll logic to get a ridiculous point across, or much more often (hint: I've never seen a conspiracy theory that didn't fail this test:), they directly contradict well proven evidence.

Or, to quote MythBusters in the end of their Apollo special: "There's no conspiracy theory. Get over it!"

I've seen all this before, and I think it's utter nonsense. Most of the people who have pushed this conspiracy so heavily such as John Todd and Alex Jones were/are proven frauds and liars. Then, there's the solid evidence that "backmasking" evil messages into music and therefore subliminally influencing people is a pure myth. Finally, it just doesn't make any sense that a super-secret society that tries to insidiously control the world would advertise its presence by putting up obvious symbols everywhere it goes. Don't let this stuff worry you.

Just in case some of you think I'm a conspiracy theory nerd: I simply am not. I do not support any of them, but neither do I completely reject them besides of course the whole 9/11 ''inside job'' crap which is often a favorite of radical anti-semitistic islamists who try to blame others (usually jews) for something horrible which was caused by their own religion, and as well silly things like that the moon landings are hoaxes.

Allthough I've decided to keep my distance from 99% of all conspiracy theories, I do think some weird stuff contrary to our knowledge might be going on. I agree that something literally like the ''Illuminati'' seems unlikely to be operational, but still it wouldn't hurt to keep our eyes peeled. We constantly forget that anything in this crazy world is possible. About 73 years ago, just only a few people were aware of the existance of nazi concentration camps besides the inmates or the SS themselves, or high ranking politicians (untill they were exposed after the war). To arrogantly think that we are untouchable and nothing something like this ''new world order'' we speak off could ever happen, is in my opinion never a good idea. We should never underestimate the horrors mankind is capable off. One thing that is for sure is that mankind learns from it's past mistakes, but eventually might make a new mistake that could even get us straight back to where the past mistake started. History may not literally repeat itself, but it does rhyme.
