Pre-Orders

I myself don't pre-order simply because I don't have the $$ to buy games often enough to even consider buying a game that isn't at least a year old, but anyways...

I found this video that, to summarize it, claims that pre-orders are a bad thing for the industry. And after watching it, I have to a agree with it. What do you guys think?

I never pre-order games, and this is exactly why.

Now, I've pre-ordered two games ever.
One of them had bonuses.
They turned out to be good.
But no more pre-orders from me.
For another 4 months at least.

Sometimes, but not for bonuses and DEFINITELY not for downloaded games. This is why the video is a little pointless... Every point he made has nothing to do with why I pre order. He assumes way too much and just sounds like an ass. Don't worry guys, some of us Brits CAN think for ourselves, we don't all think as closed minded as this guy.

I would like to add a personal story: someone once told me once how happy he was that he was pre-ordering a game on Steam, and I asked him why he wanted it, because it was bad. (Jane's JSF). He got quite defensive and really rated out on me for labeling a game as 'bad' without having actually having played it. What I tried to tell him was that from the available information, it was a bad game, and it's better for him to let the reviews come in first.

The game came out, and it was bad. The guy was lucky that Steam gave him a refund. He even kinda apologized to me for warning him off.

What I am saying is that while there might be smart people like you, Flip, who at least do your research, but guys like you are far in between. 99% of all pre-orders are done because there is spare cash at and, and not because the game is guaranteed to be good.

Well yeah that's fair enough. But you're still just as likely to spend money on a bad game via buying it when it's out as you are pre ordering it.
The thing with reviews is they are opinions in the end, I've played some really fun and surprisingly enjoyable games that got 6/10s across the board.
I do check reviews but unless its like getting crazily low scores on average which is usually not the case then I'll still get it if it looks like something I would enjoy.
