I'm tuned into The Weather Channel right now cause they're reporting all over it. But I've been watching this storm on and off since it began out in the Atlantic ocean last week.

Isaac made its first landfall in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana over 2 hours ago as of this post. And even though it's a category 1 hurricane with 80 mph sustained winds, it has slowed down in forward speed considerably today. So it could be a very rough night (and day tomorrow) ahead for New Orleans *city devastated by Hurricane Katrina of 2005* all night tonight. Hurricane havoc could definitely be wreaked all over again in southern Louisiana soon.

Katrina was a cat 5, this is a cat 1. Katrina was a deadly hurricane because the levee system protecting New Orleans from flooding failed. The levees in use now are newer, and, if the Army Corps of Engineers aren't idiots, should be able to withstand hurricane conditions this time.

Yea. This hurricane is not a big one like Katrina, not even really close. I still hope everyone's alright.

The problem with Isaac is that it's now a slow mover. So slow that it's begun to crawl and the center's over water again right now. So you can expect that New Orleans is going to be lashed for an extended period of time. Sustained winds are 80 mph. But from what I've been seeing, the gusts have been 100+ near the northern eyewall and in the stronger rain bands around there. Duration will be key here. And I wouldn't trust that Isaac won't be anything like Katrina at all. I'm not saying the levees will break. But you can't be 100% sure nothing will happen to them with this storm.

Another problem in question will be is if the area gets into the northeast quadrant of the eyewall. This is usually the most intense side of the hurricane with rain and wind going on constantly, and the east wind flow that can really push the storm surge ashore.

Also, FYI Katrina came into Louisiana as a category 3 hurricane:

Speaking from Louisiana myself, we are going to feel Issac's wrath hard for the next few days. Heavy rain, heavy gusts of wind, and thunderstorms are to come. I'm not sure if I am going to be able to attend college tomorrow.

Anyway, I'll be fine since my family have a generator to keep the lights on in case of a power outrage. Lastly, my thoughts and prayers are out to the victims already suffering because of Hurricane Isaac. And the future victims, as well.

And this is why it's not a good idea to build cities twenty feet below sea level.

I just hope that if anything happens, it won't be a monumental task to send the people a bottle of water.

I have friends living in Florida. I just hope everything is going to be okay over there. I don't want anything to happen to them. Of course if Florida can survive Katrina and Andrew then Issac shouldn't be too scary.

The hurricane topped the levees outside of New Orleans. Watch the vid at the top of the page. scary stuff O_O
