Apple defeats Samsung in lawsuit

Apple defeated Samsung in a lawsuit it filed for patent infringement, claiming that Samsung's smartphones and tablets were copies of Apple's iPhone and iPads. Cited were the apps, 'bounce back' scrolling, tap to zoom, shape/appearance, etc. Samsung will pay a little over a billion dollars to Apple in the loss, and will pull the specified products.

Thoughts?

Obviously, they did take inspiration from Apple.

But I don't really care. If companies were taken to court every time one builds off another's ideas in the tech industry, we wouldn't have any of the technology we have now. Imagine if the keyboard was patented, or the mouse. That just wouldn't work.

Apple had good ideas with their touch screen interface, so Samsung implemented the ideas too. I don't see what the problem with that is. That's how the industry moves forward.

I'm afraid that without Steve Jobs, Apple cannot do anything anymore short of suing other companies for every penny they can get. Jobs was the source of inspiration and innovation for Apple, and now that he's gone, Apple is lost.

After all, what Apple is doing is a lot like Toyota suing Ferrari because Ferrari uses streering wheels and pedals in their cars. If you want another car example, all the semi-automatic car companies that use peddle-shifters (flappy-peddle gear boxed). You don't see these companies suing each other because they share a bit of tech. Instead they innovate and compete with one another, showing customers why they are better than their competition instead of silencing it.

Way to go, Apple.

These lawsuits are retarded. They are obviously a way of showing status, because after all, those companies can barely grow anymore.

It's probably due to Samsung having a higher market share than Apple "LOL U MAD APPLE?!"
I can't say I care too much for either of these companies, I have an iPhone and love it but that's about as far as my appreciation for Apple goes.

Interesting video about Apple attitude about hardware.

I think Apple got to cocky when it got rich and popular.

It got too cocky, because it was led by Steve Jobs.

I mean, it's true Apple doesn't invent hardware: they don't have to. They invented ideas and images. Apple permanently and fundamentally changed the way people look at computers and technology. Apple changed them from being viewed as utilitarian to objects of desire. Hardware with style. Interface that's attractive and user-friendly. Apple products sell because they make the people who use them feel cool, and that's something that isn't easy to do.

Yeah I have read various books and articles on Steve Jobs since his death, and that is the same thought I end up on.
