Google+ delete a ton of accounts

It turns out Goolge+ are suspending any accounts that do not use proper names. This means I can not sign up as "Flip" or something, now obviously I still could use a "real" name like Bob Harrison or something random like that, but the majority will now sign up with their real names.
And of course the problem with that, everyone can see your name which is how spam e-mails contact you with your real name, pretending to be from a company or something >.>.

Thoughts/opinions? Anyone had this happen to them yet? (the same happens on Faebook too, but they seem less strict about it.)

This is sort of what Facebook does with a little more effort, right? I think if they offer a free service, people should be able to join as whomever they wish. They're probably trying to remove the anonymity of usernames so people will act more proper.

Exactly. I hate it when I open my inbox and have 9001 messages from so-called companies. Why would they want people to use their real names anyway? I'd rather have my real name hidden from public. :/

Not to mention, it' completely pointless. What is the point of not allowing non-name accounts? To prevent people from creating spam accounts? Spam bots can create real name accounts just as easily as one called sfsdhrrhdr. John Smith. Here you go. A computer can do better than that. See? There's no point. Now all you did is make a lot of people very angry.

I am very glad that I never bothered to create a Google+ account. Now I will avoid it like the plague. Way to go Google. You F'ed it up big time.

I think with Facebook it was more along the lines of "We have this rule now." and then targeted a few people to kind of make an example of and say "If you use a fake name we will ban you, see?" but for the most part it is not that heavily enforced on there. But yeah, I do hate the impression companies seem to be under that this kind of crap is acceptable just because it is a free of charge thing.

Well this is what Google+ is trying to prevent, a lot of spam mails are based off having your "real name". Remember that spam mail everyone here got from some chick wanting a date? That didn't use my alias (Flip), it used my real name because it got my E-Mail from here, and then found my name through that. And Google are saying the names are secured and encrypted anyway, but well so was my PlayStation account, but that did not stop hackers getting hold of my, and millions of others' personal details across the World, including bank details.

Also protects children, who may want to try and add and then talk to say, "Simba from The Lion King." and meet him in real life as soon as he asks them (lol is never going to look at Simba the same way again) but you get my drift?

I just worry about kids with crazy names. I know there's a lot of them about. As far as g+ is concerned, im not joining and I dont have an issue with people knowing my real name. I get my name on a badge at work and at work, they can see my face and know where I amm too. I dont care if a few people on the net know my name.

I don't see much of a problem with this. It's a social network that's supposed to mirror Facebook, and frankly it is safer that way. If they started asking for identification or credit card info on sign up then it would be a problem , but if all they ask is a real name I'm sure it's not a huge deal....
