Norway Attacks

I did not want to make a thread on this at first because we had such little details until recently.
But for those of you who are unaware, Norway has had terrorist attacks.
87 shot dead at a youth camp, by a man disguised as an officer (1 hour and a half run n gun spree)
and seven dead from a car bomb explosion outside a government building.

This of course comes after Norway sent 400 troops into Afghan, leading many to suspect the Al Qaeda were behind the attacks, but the gunmen did eventually surrender, however it is not at the moment clear if he was part of a larger terrorism organisation

And if anyone here of course is from Norway, then I wish the best for, your family and country to recover as quick and as well as possible =)

I`m from Norway. My sister lives in Oslo (the capital, where the attacks happened) and this week both my parents were visiting her. I got a text yesterday from my sister telling me to turn on the news, and then I saw what had happened. Thankfully, my family are safe, but my heart goes out to the people who have lost loved ones.

The King held a speech for the people yesterday, telling us that he believes that freedom is stronger than fear, and that in times like these, the people must unite and take care of each other.

I never thought something like this would happen in our small, peaceful country.

Although we've moved to Canada, we still care about our Norwegian family and friends and so when we heard about it we all cried and got worried. I tried not to cry, of course. It was bad enough that my mom and Rebekka were crying. The only time I cried was when someone hugged me and I couldn't help it anymore.

They have caught the guy. Believe it or not he was NORWEGIAN and apparently his religion was Christianity as well. And so he basically attacked his own country because he didn't like the politics, I think. But people are still missing, including my cousin's friend. We are still in shock and I can honestly say that my mood is not the greatest. I am just relieved that all of my friends in Oslo are safe. I'm worried for Rebekka though (my cousin). I really hope her friend is still alive...

This is indeed tragic. With over 90 dead, this is one of the worst terrorist attacks in history. I wish the best for Norway and the entire free world. Like the king said: Freedom is stronger than fear.

But I have to wonder: What took so long for the police to arrive? If the boats had trouble, why didn't they look for other forms of transportation, such as a helicopter? This makes me think that many nations (unfortunately, Norway is one) assume that they are free from terrorism and don't train anti-terrorist forces well enough. It's a shame, really, and I hope that I am wrong in this assumption.

Thanks everyone...

Yeah, the cops couldn't get in because they needed the explosives team to check out the area first for more bombs. They found one that had not gone off at the area where all the kids were.

Yeah that makes sense, I guess once the event had began all the government can do is try their best to keep the deaths to as few as possible. And going in all guns blazing against suicide bombers and planted explosives is not going to do that.

I couldn't believe this when I first heard about it yesterday. Still can't, actually. I never thought in a million years that something like this would happen in Norway. Ever. Such a peaceful, beautiful little country. And so close to us (I live in Sweden). This is horrible. I feel so bad for everyone involved :'(
