Rifiki smiled from his tree, his aging eyes catching a glimpse of the new king and queen, Kiara and Kovu, walking together through the grasses on one of their patrols of the territory together.
The old baboon smiled, shifting his weight as he sat, propping himself up with his staff... Oh what a long way the pride lands had come in his life... And what a long way he had come. For he was not always old, not always as wise as he was now.
His life coming to a close soon, he felt, he could not help but reflect back on his life... He had seen four different kings in power... And he couldn't help but think about a time before those kings... When he was just a boy in his fathers tree. The very tree that he lived in now.
Rifiki had been, honestly, a bit of a trouble maker in his time... His father had a lot to put up with, on top of keeping the king and queen fit and happy. They had just birthed a cub of their own, the young Mohatu, but he still managed to find time for his son... After all, the old monkey was coming to the end of the road for him... At least, he wished to retire. Like Rifiki would eventually, he had seen a lot of kings in his life time, and wanted a good rest.
Rifiki was still small, almost a teen, and required a lot of training. But, if it was one thing that could keep him from goofing off. It was his fathers stories, and the promises of learning great spiritual things and healing. His lessons were about the only thing that kept the hyper active young baboon still... And every day, after training, he would stare at his fathers shaman stick with awe. For he could not wait to be the next shaman. The aid to kings and queens. Be respected and known...
He would grow, eventually take over his fathers work when Ahadi reached adult hood, and then saw over the royal families of Mohatu, Uru, Mufasa, Simba, and now finally, Kiara... He had lived a full life... And now he figured it was about time for him to find his own heir... His own descendant to take over..
Rifiki smiled as his thoughts brought him back to the present... He then looked to the stars... Mufasa had always been his favorite of the kings and queens he looked over through out his long life... The one who had shown him the most kindness, and even considered him a close friend.
"Soon my friend." Rifiki said softly, his voice naturally tired now a days. And with that, he drifted off to sleep, his face still smiling as dreams of childhood guided him into darkness.
