While Kate hadn't a single clue as to where she was going (or where she was, to begin with), going anywhere was obviously a better idea than staying put. Since they were in unfamiliar territory, she didn't know what to expect. There could be bears, other wolves and even more humans in the area, so they were going to have to take things slowly and carefully. Sure, other wolves could be a source of information, but an entire pack chasing after you would most likely be worst than a few bears.

The alpha instinctively slowed down when Humphrey called out to her, having not done so earlier because she was certain that he was following her the entire time. As playful and mischievous as the omega had been as a puppy (and still was, even as a young adult), she also remembered how they used to support each other when they were little. "I knew you'd understand." As unlikely as the idea of Humphrey not taking something as a joke might sound to some wolves, she wasn't surprised that knowing what was going on made him act more seriously. While Humphrey may not have been trained to deal with this sort of situation, just hearing him say that they were going to be back in time was enough to raise her confidence a little. "Thanks..." she said, smiling.

Kate couldn't estimate exactly what the odds of them getting home were (and before it became too late, too) but she shared Humphrey's attitude. They were going to get home in time because they had to. Because there were two packs depending on their return. Therefore, as slim as the chances looked, she preferred failing while trying and doing her best rather than by simply giving up. Giving up wasn't what she'd been trained to do in Alpha School. "First we need to figure out where we are." she said after a short silence. "Getting out of these woods should give us a good point of view of the area."

"But we'll need to find the edge of the woods first," Humphrey commented, "I have no idea where we are." He looked around, noting how the jagged, snow-covered peaks looked nothing like the mountains at Jasper. Then something else crossed his mind. "But hey, Kate, looks like you were wrong: I don't think we are the food." He grinned at her, letting her see that he is still the same old omega that she knew since they were pups. "So don't go scaring me like that again."

A change of color behind Kate caught his eye, and Humphrey walked past her to get a closer look. He stopped at the edge of a small cliff, and looked down on a very flat green field. Even better, a small group of critters was assembled on the field. "Hey, Kate, look!" Observing the animals, Humphrey saw that they were busy with some sticks and small round stones. "Looks like they are playing some sort of game.." Two birds in particular were somewhat separate from the others, and even better, right in the middle of the field. "Hey, they can tell us where we are!"

Looking at the birds, especially at a very nicely sized, plump goose, made the omega's stomach rumble as well. Humphrey sighed. He really could use a meal or two. Speaking of that bird. "And if they don't, we can eat them!"

There was only one problem with that idea: Humphrey looked down the cliff, wondering how in the world they would get down the vertical slope.

"Hopefully we can find the edge of the woods soon." commented Kate with a sigh. "Standing in one place isn't going to help, so I figured we might as well go somewhere." Not that she wasn't glad that Humphrey and her weren't food, but at the moment she was more concerned about finding out where they were. Offering the omega a small snicker, she continued walking. "I'll do my best." It's not like ignoring Humphrey or arguing with him was going to help, and as long as they didn't end up getting too distracted or delaying, why not?

Out of instinct, the first thought that came to Kate's mind upon seeing the animals (alongside the relief at having found such a large, open area) was the thought of food. Hadn't it been for Humphrey, she wouldn't have even thought about asking them for directions. She looked at the omega for a short moment. "Yeah." While this seemed like a win-win situation (either food or information), finding out where they were was more important than a meal for the time being, regardless of how hungry she was.

"Follow my lead." With that the alpha walked over to the edge of the cliff and, without any hesitation, jumped down, landing gracefully as if the height had no influence on her whatsoever. She looked up at Humphrey for a short moment before beginning to walk in the direction of the two birds, apparently forgetting the fact that the omega hasn't been trained to do what she had just done.

Humphrey's jaw dropped when Kate did quite the amazing somersault down the cliff, landing perfectly and walking off like it was nothing. He quickly, but very nervously looked around for another way down, but there wasn't one. Retreating a few steps, he kept in his mind the image of how Kate had done it. It didn't take her any effort to pull that move off, so there is no reason why he couldn't do it as well.

Taking a deep breath, the omega charged forwards, preparing himself to jump. Except that as soon as he was about to toss himself over the edge of the cliff, he very stupidly looked down. At that moment, all his confidence vanished as he saw the fall, and Humphrey immediately began to desperately back away onto solid ground. However, his momentum had already propelled him too far forwards, and contrary to the elegant hop performed by Kate, Humphrey simply fell off, and landed heavily and painfully on the ground below.

"Ooh." The omega groaned quietly, but was very grateful to be on the ground again. Except for the pain of the impact, nothing felt broken or damaged, and Humphrey clumsily stood back up, ignoring his protesting body. Since when did Kate ever expect him to do something like that? For that matter, how did she pull that move off and not smash her legs in the process?

When the alpha looked back to see that he was following, Humphrey let out a small grin. "Right behind you!" As soon as she turned back towards the field, the omega's legs buckled, but he remained standing and too began to walk forwards, albeit much slower and raising a paw every now and then to try and shake the pain off. "I'm going to get you back for that one, Kate. Just you wait."

While Kate was quite determined about the possibility of getting some information on how to get home as soon as possible, the loud noise caused by Humphrey's unsuccessful attempt to mimic her jump from the cliff was a little too hard to ignore. The alpha looked around for a brief moment, but when Humphrey made it seem as if nothing was wrong she turned her attention back to the two birds ahead of them, thinking no more of it.

"Did you say something?" she asked after a few moments and stopped, turning around to face the Omega. She could have sworn she'd heard the Omega mumble something to himself, but when Humphrey gave her an innocent smile accompanied by the shaking of his head she shrugged and carried on. It didn't once occur to her that maybe hey, two birds might get quite startled and run off if they were randomly approached by two wolves, especially if they noticed the two wolves only when they'd gotten really close.

Kate and Humphrey walked over to the birds, who didn't seem to notice the two wolves. Only when they were very close did the smaller one of the two saw the danger and flew off in fright, leaving the fat goose behind. The omega was about to get the attention of the goose when it brought its head back and saw the wolves as well.

Without any signs of fear, the goose turned around and spoke. "Ah, hello. You are two wolves. I've never seen any wolves in these parts, but I like wolves!"

Humphrey smiled in relief. If that was the case, then it will look like finding out where they are won't be too much trouble. "Good. Because we just want to ask a few questions."

The goose nodded. "Just a few questions? Quick! Look behind you!"

Both wolves looked behind them at where the goose pointed, which gave the goose the perfect opportunity to hit Humphrey hard over the head with the stick it was holding.

"Ow!" The omega rubbed his head furiously where it was hit, barely noticing Kate telling him to grab the goose. Wasting no time to get the bird which hurt his head, Humphrey bolted and grabbed onto the goose's tail. And that was when he really began to feel the lack of alpha training kicking in. Despite holding onto the goose, Humphrey found himself being carried around all over the place, changing his hold from one of anger to one of desperation for his life. "Kate! Help!" The goose continued to drag him around, making sure that the omega hit a few rocks along the way, but eventually its strength ran out, and both Humphrey and the goose fell into a muddy puddle.

Humphrey groaned as he tried to regain his senses, not even caring about being covered in mud. The goose on the other hand didn't seem to be fazed all that much. "So, you had a few questions?"
