These two (full length) stories are a tie, but one is actually based off of the other.
The first is called The White Water chronicles, a story that explores what was happening in Sarabi's life during Scar's reign. Some parts are a bit heavy, but it is rated as suitable for 13 and up

The second is called The Pride of Man, and is the story above rewritten with a human character inserted into it. I know opinion of human inserts is divided but trust me, this one is brilliant.

The themes in these stories are really dark and there is strong language FYI!!! For some of them you must be a member of deviantArt and signed in order to read them.

Pridelands: Forgotten Dynasty- Written by Rinjapine on deviantArt (the story is in the description of the drawings). Her explanation of this fic is: A fic about Mohatu's great-grandfather and his three daughters. Inspired by the dialogue in the TLK-comic "False Ancestor".
It gives an interesting beginning to the Pridelands as a whole and makes for a nice read. It is not a finished tale.

To my knowledge, the next part of the story as written by her is told in a comic. It is:

The Lion Queen: Trials of the Heart- The comic details Uru's life in Rinjapine's version. It is as yet unfinished, but it gets you up to the point where you can almost seamlessly transfer into the next fic.
Her description: "My take on Uru's story. It's long. It's tragic. It's bloody. What's not to love? XD"

The Lion King: The Demon Within- Rinjapine's version of Scar's life. Explains why he behaves the way he does, explains where Zira and her pride come from, etc.
Her description: "My version of how Taka became Scar, and all the events both before and after the first movie. I tried to tie together as many comics, books and other stuff as possible.

Every other TLK fic I've done is based off the events in this one."

Simba's Pride: Requiem- Her description: "My version of Simba's Pride, retold as I see it. Beware! I twist it in directions it was never meant to go."

She's got another fic that comes after that, but I've not read it yet. I don't agree with all of her theories, but the stories are brilliant nonetheless.

I love it because it really, seriously reads like it's in Shenzi's voice, and because even though I found this way back at the beginning & have read it a dozen times, I still snort/chortle/head-desk at the "weird friends" line. Enjoy!

The story after SP: Requiem is Chains of Darkness. It is not finished, like two of her other fics, but it reads well up to this point.

Started reading this today. Seems pretty good so far.

I'm not sure how exactly this is going to go, or what all is going to happen, but it's set under Scar's reign, so... yeah. It's probably going to get pretty dark.

This is a story where Simba doesn't run away from the pridelands after the stampede, instead he and the other semi-canon cubs decide to make a little group to take down Scar instead. Very detailed and character driven, with some of the most touching scenes I've read in a while. That and this is the first fanfic I've read where Tama was a male

Trampled (by the afore mentioned GeminiGemelo) is an awesome read. Simba dies in the stampede but Mufasa survives, but it puts a great spin on an AU scenario that I've seen a few times before. For a fic that basically killed off my favorite character in the very first chapter, I'm surprised it got my attention the way it did, but I'm very glad it did

This one is a really really dark fic, but nonetheless highly enjoyable. Basically, mufasa lives, and scar takes simba hostage in order to ascend to the throne. Really immensely tragic stuff happens, but it offers a message of hope through darkness at the end that I like, and perseverance. The great writing helps too. It should be noted that the story is still technically ongoing, though it says complete.

Simba Hater's Rejoice! This one is pretty self explanatory in it's title, but Kovu follows through with the plan and attacks simba. Saying anything else is spoiling the whole thing, but some creative solutions to some difficult problems are made apparent and it's shown not even the protagonist is necessarily free of all guilt. (Gosh these recommendations are dark, I better put some lighthearted ones on here.)

Unfortunately this one is discontinued as the author has disappeared and therefore cannot complete it, but it's still a funny read. Simba finds himself in a situation where he's turns into a cub again while still king. Hijinks ensue. It has some great jokes, and made me grin all throughout reading.

It's a parady of the second movie. And It's a really good one. The second movie has lots of opportunities for good jokes to be made of it, and this author uses that with a vengeance.
