Here's the sad but true story. His father, Skia, was a fairly arrogant dog and pushed Steele, rather harshly, I might add, to be the best he could be and told him that being underhanded was acceptable. I tried to tell Steele different, but he would not listen. Skia also drove it into his head that purebreds were better than mixed-breeds. It was at that time that the young Balto came to Nome. Steele began to pick on him, egged on by Jenna's sister Ice. Balto bit Steele in self-defense and Skia went ballistic afterwards, yelling at him and telling him that he needed to train harder. Steele then became determined to be a great sled dog and succeeded, gradually becoming what he is today.
