Which is the better system: socialist or capitalist?

Which is the better system: socialist or capitalist?

Postby it means no worries » January 2nd, 2015, 3:23 pm

Im sorry if this doesnt quite fit the "world issues" section but i couldn't think of anywhere else to put this.

Socialist and communist
During and since the last decade or so of the 20th century many countries have chosen to adopt a capitalist system rather than a socialist one. The small amount of socialist and communist countries now compared to the amount 50 odd years ago seems to suggest that socialism is the worse system. Even many of the self proclaimed socialist countries have started adopting capitalist guidelines and laws. eg. Chinese people are now allowed private businesses and many schools aren't free.

My opinion has changed radically since writing this as I have studied economics and politics in far more detail. I think that right wing economics makes far more sense.

Capitalist
In capitalism there is a very big divide between the classes. There are the extremely rich and the extremely poor. Capitalism, in very, very basic terms is: if you do well you get tons of money, if you dont do well then you dont.

Many schools require fees, (which for obvious reasons many cant get into) this means that many people are at a disadvantage in terms of getting a job and making a living. That is the main root problem to the divide of the classes in capitalist countries. Many people dont get a good enough education (if any) which means they are poorly qualified in terms of jobs so they end up working long hours and gaining very little.

on the flip side however, capitalism can be seen as a more fair system, from the view point of: I worked hard and earned it so i should be able to keep it, whereas in a socialist country you can have very lazy people with an ill attitude earning similar amounts to the diligent and hard working. This is one of the main things that put people off socialism

Capitalism is also easier to follow because it is more inline with human nature insofar as: I want to have the best life and as much money as i possibly can, whereas socialism goes against human nature and is concentrated on working for the community rather than the individual.

Which do you believe in and do you think a socialist country (with more relaxed laws about censoring and private property than communist) is as just a viable option as a capitalist one?

Both are deeply flawed ideologies that sound great on paper but when put into practice don't really work because of human nature.

With Capitalism you get to keep most of what you earn.....if you were already born into wealth because you'll easily be able to get a better education and get a better job and have the right connections.....

For every rags to riches success story there are many thousands of hard workers in america who stay in poverty.

I guess with socialism you have a better chance at living a decent life, but the more extreme form of socialism usually has evil people at the helm of things. Not to say that the american government are saints but the more famous communist leaders were incredibly bad people. Just look at the oppressed people of north korea as a modern example.

^That is why i believe in socialism not communism as it is a far less extreme version and gives people more freedom and (tends) to have less corrupt or evil people in power because those people dont have as much power as they would do in communism

PS which (if any) do you believe in?

I try to avoid politics whenever I can because discussing them rarely ends well.

I'm not a republican but I don't like obama or hillary much either. Bill Clinton was great but had his image tainted forever due to the incident with monica lewinski and how he lied about it under oath.

Lying under oath is something even an american President can't get away with as he was impeached but still served his full term.

Sometimes I don't know either. american politics are a confusing mess that needs a complete overhaul that likely won't happen.

I think I'm more of a socialist than a capitalist. Or rather a producerist, but even that ideology has it's flaws. I think that the majority of people that produces the wealth, that includes E.g. doctors and engineers, should get payed more at the expense of corporate owners and people living on goverment aid, but the last category still need to get enough money to survive. I think it's infuriating that so many people owns so much and do nothing to deserve that money, yet some people struggle hard and get almost nothing. I think capitalism is overrated, the countries in Eastern Europe didn't benefit from switching from socialism to capitalism (in a economical sense, they got rid of despots, which is good, but that's more of a political question than a economical). Instead their economies collapsed. Sweden has been more capitalist in recent years but we haven't benefited from that. We were the 3rd best economy in the world in the 1970s but now we're like number 16.

I also think that socialism would lead to more secure people and lower crime rates.
Until I'm home, I'm on a distant road
