Scar is widely regarded to be one of the greatest Disney villains of all time and is one of only three Disney characters to be nominated for "Best Villain" in the MTV Movie Awards, and is also the only Disney animated character to have achieved this. Scar's role in the story is based on that of King Claudius in Hamlet while his personality is reminiscent of Iago from Othello whilst also bearing some allegorical resemblance to Nazi dictator, Adolf Hitler.
